Red Bull Verstappen youngster Max predicts challenging finish in title fight

The Mercedes 4Matic-powered Red Bull Verstappen family might have looked unbeatable for the first few races, but the next generation of drivers are looking like a different bunch.

Making their Red Bull debut this season, Verstappen’s 18-year-old teammate, Max Verstappen, held the form of a seasoned veteran on the track. But with Mercedes’ cars faster than ever, does that mean he will give his title rival just his toughest fight yet?

“I certainly think there are some opportunities, absolutely,” Verstappen said. “But also I see the opportunities as being more difficult because the Mercedes cars are very strong. So it’s difficult to win with that.”

Whatever happens, the prospect of a battle between two young generations of talent that will redefine what a Red Bull Formula One car could look like very well could be in the cards.

“The older guys in the team were asking how Max was doing,” said Max’s father Jos, “and I said: ‘I think he will be here for at least seven years, but as Max is 16-17 years old we will start waiting.’
